Following the uninstall process, the application leaves leftovers on the PC. Some of these are shown below.

You will find in the Windows Registry that the following data will not be cleaned; remove them one by one using regedit.exe:

• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\x-github-desktop-auth
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\GitHubDesktop

Supplementary values that are not cleaned:

• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache\C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\GitHubDesktop\app-3.4.13\GitHubDesktop.exe.ApplicationCompany
• HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache\C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\GitHubDesktop\app-3.4.13\GitHubDesktop.exe.FriendlyAppName

A way to erase GitHub Desktop with Advanced Uninstaller PRO

GitHub Desktop is an application by the software company GitHub, Inc.. Some users want to uninstall this application. This is troublesome because deleting this manually takes some experience regarding Windows program uninstallation. 2. Start Advanced Uninstaller PRO. It's recommended to take some time to get familiar with Advanced Uninstaller PRO's interface and number of features available. Advanced Uninstaller PRO is a powerful package of utilities.

3. Click on the General Tools category


4. Activate the Uninstall Programs feature


5. A list of the applications installed on the PC will be made available to you

6. Scroll the list of applications until you find GitHub Desktop or simply click the Search field and type in "GitHub Desktop". The GitHub Desktop program will be found automatically. Notice that when you select GitHub Desktop in the list of applications, the following information regarding the program is made available to you:

• Star rating (in the left lower corner). The star rating explains the opinion other users have regarding GitHub Desktop, from "Highly recommended" to "Very dangerous".
• Reviews by other users - Click on the Read reviews button.
• Technical information regarding the program you want to uninstall, by pressing the Properties button.

7. Press the Uninstall button. A confirmation window will show up. accept the removal by clicking the Uninstall button. Advanced Uninstaller PRO will remove GitHub Desktop.


8. After uninstalling GitHub Desktop, Advanced Uninstaller PRO will ask you to run a cleanup. Press Next to go ahead with the cleanup. All the items of GitHub Desktop that have been left behind will be detected and you will be able to delete them. By uninstalling GitHub Desktop with Advanced Uninstaller PRO, you can be sure that no Windows registry items, files or directories are left behind on your computer.
