How to uninstall RStudio from your system

RStudio is a Windows program. Read below about how to remove it from your PC. It was created for Windows by RStudio. You can read more on RStudio or check for application updates here. RStudio is usually installed in the C:\Program Files\RStudio directory, regulated by the user's option. The full command line for uninstalling RStudio is C:\Program Files\RStudio\Uninstall.exe. Keep in mind that if you will type this command in Start / Run Note you might be prompted for admin rights. rstudio.exe is the programs's main file and it takes about 6.44 MB (6754340 bytes) on disk.

Following the uninstall process, the application leaves leftovers on the PC. Part_A few of these are shown below.

You should delete the folders below after you uninstall RStudio:
  • C:\Program Files\RStudio\bin
  • C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\RStudio
  • C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\RStudio-Desktop
  • C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\RStudio

Generally, the following files remain on disk:
  • C:\Program Files\RStudio\bin\consoleio.exe
  • C:\Program Files\RStudio\bin\diagnostics.exe
  • C:\Program Files\RStudio\bin\gnudiff\cmp.exe
  • C:\Program Files\RStudio\bin\gnudiff\diff.exe

You will find in the Windows Registry that the following keys will not be uninstalled; remove them one by one using regedit.exe:
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.c\OpenWithList\rstudio.exe
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.cpp\OpenWithList\rstudio.exe
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.css\OpenWithList\rstudio.exe
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.h\OpenWithList\rstudio.exe

Open regedit.exe in order to delete the following registry values:
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\rstudio.exe\shell\open\command\
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RStudio.Rproj\DefaultIcon\
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\RStudio.Rproj\shell\open\command\
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\RStudio\DisplayIcon


A way to remove RStudio from your computer with Advanced Uninstaller PRO

6. Navigate the list of applications until you locate RStudio or simply activate the Search field and type in "RStudio". If it exists on your system the RStudio app will be found very quickly. Notice that when you select RStudio in the list , the following information about the application is available to you:


  • Star rating (in the lower left corner). The star rating explains the opinion other users have about RStudio, from "Highly recommended" to "Very dangerous".
  • Opinions by other users - Press the Read reviews button.
  • Technical information about the app you wish to uninstall, by pressing the Properties button.
7. Click the Uninstall button. A window asking you to confirm will come up. Confirm the uninstall by pressing the Uninstall button. Advanced Uninstaller PRO will automatically uninstall RStudio.
