A way to uninstall Git from your computer

You can find below detailed information on how to uninstall Git for Windows. It is developed by The Git Development Community. More information on The Git Development Community can be found here. Click on to get more info about Git on The Git Development Community's website. The program is often placed in the C:\Program Files\Git directory (same installation drive as Windows). The full command line for removing Git is C:\Program Files\Git\unins000.exe. Note that if you will type this command in Start / Run Note you might receive a notification for administrator rights. git.exe is the Git's primary executable file and it takes circa 44.02 KB (45072 bytes) on disk.

Git is composed of the following executables which take 308.31 MB (323281372 bytes) on disk:

  • git.exe (44.02 KB)
  • git-remote-fd.exe (3.34 MB)

Registry that is not cleaned:

Registry values that are not removed from your PC:

How to delete Git from your PC with Advanced Uninstaller PRO

Git is an application marketed by the software company The Git Development Community. Some people decide to remove this program. This is troublesome because removing this by hand takes some skill related to Windows program uninstallation. The best SIMPLE approach to remove Git is to use Advanced Uninstaller PRO. Take the following steps on how to do this:

  • download the program by pressing the green DOWNLOAD button
  • install Advanced Uninstaller PRO
2. Start Advanced Uninstaller PRO. Take some time to get familiar with Advanced Uninstaller PRO's design and wealth of functions available. Advanced Uninstaller PRO is a very good package of tools.

3. Press the General Tools category

4. Click on the Uninstall Programs button

5. A list of the programs existing on the computer will be made available to you

6. Scroll the list of programs until you locate Git or simply activate the Search feature and type in "Git". The Git app will be found very quickly. When you click Git in the list of applications, the following information regarding the application is made available to you:


  • Star rating (in the left lower corner). The star rating tells you the opinion other people have regarding Git, ranging from "Highly recommended" to "Very dangerous".
  • Reviews by other people - Press the Read reviews button.
  • Technical information regarding the program you are about to uninstall, by pressing the Properties button.
For instance you can see that for Git:





  • The publisher is: https://gitforwindows.org/
  • The uninstall string is: C:\Program Files\Git\unins000.exe
7. Click the Uninstall button. A confirmation page will come up. Confirm the uninstall by pressing Uninstall. Advanced Uninstaller PRO will automatically uninstall Git.

8. After removing Git, Advanced Uninstaller PRO will offer to run an additional cleanup. Press Next to go ahead with the cleanup. All the items that belong Git that have been left behind will be detected and you will be able to delete them. By removing Git using Advanced Uninstaller PRO, you are assured that no Windows registry items, files or directories are left behind on your disk.
