A guide to uninstall iTunes from your system

Quite a few files, folders and registry data will not be uninstalled when you remove iTunes from your PC.

Folders remaining:
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\iTunes
  • C:\Documents and Settings\HP_UserName\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
  • C:\Documents and Settings\HP_UserName\Local Settings\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes
  • C:\Program Files\iTunes

The files below were left behind on your disk when you remove iTunes:
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\iTunes\About iTunes.lnk
  • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\iTunes\iTunes.lnk
  • C:\Program Files\iTunes\About iTunes.rtf
  • C:\Program Files\iTunes\Acknowledgements.rtf

Registry that is not uninstalled:
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aa\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aif\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aifc\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.aiff\OpenWithList\iTunes.exe

Use regedit.exe to delete the following additional registry values from the Windows Registry:
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\DefaultIcon\
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\shell\open\command\
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\iTunes.exe\shell\play\command\
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{08FD0F18-43AE-4969-AEE1-02E12F19CC33}\InprocServer32\


A way to delete iTunes with Advanced Uninstaller PRO

iTunes is a program by the software company Apple Computer, Inc.. Frequently, computer users decide to uninstall this application. This is efortful because doing this by hand requires some experience regarding Windows internal functioning. The best SIMPLE way to uninstall iTunes is to use Advanced Uninstaller PRO. Here is how to do this:





1. If you don't have Advanced Uninstaller PRO already installed on your system, add it. This is good because Advanced Uninstaller PRO is a very useful uninstaller and general tool to clean your PC.

  • download the setup by pressing the green DOWNLOAD button
  • set up Advanced Uninstaller PRO
2. Start Advanced Uninstaller PRO. Take your time to get familiar with Advanced Uninstaller PRO's design and number of functions available. Advanced Uninstaller PRO is a powerful program.

3. Press the General Tools category

4. Press the Uninstall Programs tool

5. All the programs existing on the PC will be shown to you

6. Scroll the list of programs until you locate iTunes or simply click the Search feature and type in "iTunes". If it exists on your system the iTunes program will be found very quickly. Notice that when you click iTunes in the list of programs, some information regarding the application is available to you:


  • Safety rating (in the left lower corner). This explains the opinion other people have regarding iTunes, from "Highly recommended" to "Very dangerous".
  • Reviews by other people - Press the Read reviews button.
  • Details regarding the application you wish to remove, by pressing the Properties button.

7. Click the Uninstall button. A confirmation page will show up. Confirm the uninstall by pressing the Uninstall button. Advanced Uninstaller PRO will then uninstall iTunes.

8. After removing iTunes, Advanced Uninstaller PRO will offer to run an additional cleanup. Click Next to start the cleanup. All the items that belong iTunes which have been left behind will be detected and you will be asked if you want to delete them. By uninstalling iTunes using Advanced Uninstaller PRO, you can be sure that no Windows registry entries, files or folders are left behind on your computer.
