Some files and registry entries are frequently left behind when you remove Steam.

Folders that were found:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam

Usually, the following files are left on disk:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Steam\SteamService.exe
  • C:\UserNames\UserName\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.Windows.Search_cw5n1h2txyewy\LocalState\AppIconCache\100\{7C5A40EF-A0FB-4BFC-874A-C0F2E0B9FA8E}_Steam_Steam_exe

You will find in the Windows Registry that the following data will not be removed; remove them one by one using regedit.exe:
  • HKEY_CURRENT_UserName\Software\Valve\Steam
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Valve\Steam
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Application\Steam Client Service

Use regedit.exe to remove the following additional values from the Windows Registry:
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache\C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe.ApplicationCompany
  • HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\MuiCache\C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe.FriendlyAppName
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\bam\State\UserNameSettings\S-1-5-21-425718032-2493691249-3410118228-1001\\Device\HarddiskVolume3\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe


A way to uninstall Steam from your PC with Advanced Uninstaller PRO

6. Scroll the list of programs until you locate Steam or simply click the Search field and type in "Steam". If it is installed on your PC the Steam app will be found automatically. After you select Steam in the list of apps, some information regarding the program is made available to you:


  • Star rating (in the left lower corner). The star rating explains the opinion other users have regarding Steam, from "Highly recommended" to "Very dangerous".
  • Opinions by other users - Press the Read reviews button.
  • Technical information regarding the program you are about to remove, by clicking on the Properties button.
7. Press the Uninstall button. A confirmation page will come up. Confirm the uninstall by clicking Uninstall. Advanced Uninstaller PRO will remove Steam.

All the items of Steam that have been left behind will be found and you will be able to delete them.
